The AP Program at Putnam City North
PC North offers 22 Advanced Placement classes. These classes give students the opportunity to take rigorous, college level courses while still in high school. This helps students prepare for college level work, and is also key for acceptance at selective colleges and universities. Students can then take the AP test in their subject, possibly earning college credit at a greatly reduced cost.
Advanced Placement courses are offered by The College Board, a non-profit group that also provides the PSAT and SAT exams. Their website offers many resources for students and parents on preparing for college as well as the different exams they offer.
If you are interested in taking an AP class, speak to your school counselor or Mrs. Malahy. Students will pick their classes and enroll each spring with their school counselor. Visit the PC North Counseling Office website here.

All About Advanced Placement
Why take an AP exam?
Many colleges offer college credit for students who pass an AP exam in the matching subject- for example, earning a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Government exam will earn you a college level government class credit, saving you money and time at the college level. The class also meets the student's senior government class requirement, fulfilling a graduation requirement for the student too. Student Services and Testing Accommodations Deadline to apply for AP testing accommodations- Jan 2024 For students who utilize 504, IEP, and medical plans, accommodations may be available for College Board exams, including the PSAT, the SAT, and Advanced Placement exams. Applying for these accommodations is a parent driven process, however the school can be available to assist families. Visit the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities page here: https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/ Receiving accommodations at school DOES NOT automatically apply a student to or guarantee any or similar accommodations on College Board exams. Interested students and families should contact the Counseling or College Offices to learn more. Scores Students who participated in testing in May can expect to see their scores in July. Scores are accessed by the students in their MyAP account. |
AP Exam Ordering Information
**The deadline for students to order their exams is Nov 7th. Payment is due by Nov 13th** AP students at PC North who choose to take one or more AP Exams need to do two things: 1. Select "Taking the Exam" inside their online AP Classroom Student account. 2. Pay for their exams at MySchoolBucks. Because College Board charges for the exams, PC North has to charge students. College Board charges 97.00 per exam, but PCN uses federal program monies to reduce the cost to our students. PCN Test Cost: 60.00 per exam, 10.00 per exam for students using the Free/Reduced lunch program. Students taking more than 3 exams will have the cost of the remaining exams waived. |

Concurrent Classes
What are concurrent classes?
Concurrent classes (sometimes called duel-enrollment) are college classes that high school students take during the school year. These classes are true college classes and the student is enrolled at that college as a concurrent student; they can be taken online or in-person, according to the student's preference. Generally, they are freshman level general education classes that are applicable to all majors. Juniors and seniors who qualify may take concurrent classes. Students should visit with their academic counselor to learn the requirements and fill out the PC North concurrent request form. Visit the PC North Counseling Office website here.
Benefits of Concurrent
Concurrent classes allow high school students to earn college credit while in high school. The students show college level work ability and 'work ahead' on their college degree. Colleges may offer a tuition discount, and the state of Oklahoma pays for tuition (but not fees or books!) for high school seniors to take some concurrent classes. While students may take concurrent classes from any college or university that offers them, many of our students take concurrent classes through two local community colleges, OSU-OKC and OCCC. PCN partners with OSU-OKC to offer on-campus concurrent classes. You can learn more about OCCC's concurrent enrollment process from this guide.
